As autumn arrives, our seasonal offerings take center stage. Hardy mums, fall bulbs, corn stalks, straw bales, and pumpkins create the perfect autumn ambiance. Starting in November, we stock fresh-cut Fraser firs and locally handcrafted cemetery arrangements. Our houseplant collection also continues to expand, especially during the fall and winter months, bringing greenery indoors all year long.

About Us
History
From Coal to Cultivation: The Beginnings of Black Diamond
The original location for Black Diamond began as a coal company in 1946 and the addition of a plant nursery/garden center was made in 1953. By 1966 the coal company was completely obsolete and the nursery business had added two additional buildings to the original business and added a large parking area. Adding on to the seasonal trees, flowers, and shrubs business was a brief experimentation with a floral shop in the 60's and also above ground pools, but neither of those businesses took off with the same inertia as the plant side of the business.
Landscape design services became an early mainstay in the nursery and eventually seasonal holiday items at Thanksgiving and Christmas became the perfect pairing with the heavily seasonal nursery and flower business, including fresh cut Fraser Firs, grave blankets and cemetery wreaths, indoor holiday trimmings and outdoor lighting.
Branching Out: Expanding into Lawn Care & Beyond
The next major phase of Black Diamond was the addition of a residential lawn service division in the mid 70's. This five step weed control and fertilizer program quickly took off in all corners of the metro Toledo area, including SE MI. Franchises in Detroit, MI and Dallas, TX came along in the 1980's on the heels of this successful service division.
In the early 90's Black Diamond added expanded their growing greenhouses to include five smaller hoop houses and one large (30,000 sf) "big house". With those additions, Black Diamond was able to grow 90% of its own annual and perennial bedding plants for retail sales.
Growing Strong: Opening the Perrysburg Garden Center
In 2006 Black Diamond opened their second retail location on Eckel Junction Rd. in Perrysburg, OH. A state of the art, fully automated glass building was selected as the design for the location, with an adjacent sales yard for trees and shrubs. This unique building and the strong Black Diamond brand quickly turned the location into a destination garden center. Today this location sells the majority of the plant material grown and sold by Black Diamond.
Expanding Horizons: Black Diamond in Waterville
In 2023 Black Diamond Inc. acquired Wardell's Greenhouse on Dutch Rd. in Waterville, OH, becoming their third retail location. Black Diamond Waterville includes growing greenhouses in addition to the retail storefront, as well as a pick your own pumpkin patch on site.
In addition to expanding physical locations, Black Diamond has embraced the power of technology to better serve customers. The introduction of online ordering has made it easier for customers to shop from the comfort of their own homes, further enhancing the convenience of Black Diamond's products and services. With these advancements, the company continues to innovate, blending traditional values with modern tools to provide the best possible experience for its customers.
